   Waterproof name stickers vs Dishwasher safe name stickers – which one should you choose? (hint: it has nothing to do with rinse aid!)

- When we google search for name stickers for our kids (or for ourselves ), one of the most popular keyword is “waterproof”. What comes as a surprise though, is that a lot of us really meant to say “dishwasher safe”. So the question is, are these terms the same?

 

Below is a step-by-step breakdown, how-to guide for you:

  • Waterproof

    • Per dictionary.com: impervious to water

    • Or simply put, under normal circumstances, no damage by water. you can put your stickers into water, and the sticker will remain intact

  • Dishwasher safe

    • This one is tricky. While dishwasher uses water, the difference is that it uses HOT Water, as well as soap and rinse aid in their washing cycle

    • This is important because..

      • Hot water is best to remove germs and heavy soil. However, hot water can make normal ink to fade, as well as shrinking/damaging conventional plastic labels

      • Heat resistant is the another key character for dishwasher safe name stickers! Our stickers are proven safe against heat and moisture in dishwasher.

      • Soap makes it easy for dirt (and regular particles, like normal inks) to be washable by water, via chemical reactions

      • Rinse Aid, on the other hand, actually does NOT damage your stickers / labels. 

        • WHY?​

        • This is because Rinse Aid actually makes the water less attached to all materials in the dishwasher; simply put, it makes your sticker more hydrophobic and thus all the hard water will slide right off. 

      • In another word, in order to be dishwasher safe, the stickers needs to be waterproof, high temperature-proof AND soap safe (and no worries to the Rinse Aid)!
